The production of Rothe Erde® rings

Production of Rothe Erde rings

The design phase is followed by the production of ring forgings at the Dortmund plant. ThyssenKrupp Rothe Erde’s outstanding capability relies on more than 125 years of experience in steel forming and machining.

Adherence to tight manufacturing tolerances begins with the strict observation of specified weights when the ingots are cut-to-length. This is done using advanced heavy-duty sawing machines with integrated weighing devices.

These ring-rolling mills belong to the most progressive production machines of their type.

They have CNC ring-rolling programmes installed which allow optimum reproducibility and consistent quality of the seamless-rolled rings produced here. Furthermore, these ring-rolling mills are equipped with automated rolling and computerised volume control systems and can produce rings with outer diameters ranging from 400 to 8,000 mm.

In addition to the normalising, the hardening and tempering, and the soft annealing of the rings, the programme-controlled processes in place for all special materials also allow to maintain specific time-temperature curves with the highest accuracy.

The production equipment available here even meets the stringent requirements of the aviation and space industries.
